From Manila to Seoul: A Proposal Built on Intention

Some enquiries tell you right away this is going to be a good one.

Jade reached out months in advance from Manila, already thinking carefully about how to propose in Seoul. He wasn’t looking to throw something together at the last minute. He wanted to do this properly.

He had options in mind. A restaurant. A park. And then everything that comes with those choices: traffic, crowding, public holidays, lighting, walking distance, where to stay, where to source balloons, what kind of banner to print.

Even how to ask the question.

That last part stood out.

Instead of defaulting to the standard “Will you marry me?”, Jade wanted something more personal. Something playful. Something that felt less borrowed and more theirs. At one stage he was considering lines like:

“Your name sounds better if changed to NIKKI SAC”
“I want you to be MRS. NIKKI SAC”

That gave me a pretty good sense of who he was. Thoughtful, romantic, slightly shy, but very deliberate.

And funny too.

Considering All Outcomes

At one point, while weighing restaurant versus park, Jade joked that if Nikki said no at the restaurant, we could just find a bar and get intoxicated. If she said no at Yongsan Family Park, at least the pond and trees would offer some solitude.

A man had considered all outcomes.

Finding the Right Direction

What I liked about Jade was that he wasn’t chasing spectacle for the sake of it. He wanted something simple, stealthy, and real.

Nikki loved balloons, so balloons became part of the visual language. He loved the idea of autumn trees and an outdoor setting, so the park slowly started to make more sense—visually, logistically, and emotionally.

It also gave us flexibility. If everything went well, we could move straight into portraits afterward without having to relocate or fight bad indoor light.

That’s usually the sweet spot.

The Work Behind “Effortless”

The proposal itself is only one part of it.

The setup. The timing. The route in. The distractions. The backup plans. What happens right after.

Jade understood that instinctively. He didn’t want to leave stones unturned, and that made him a dream client to plan with.

We built something that felt intentional, but not overdone. Enough effort to feel special. Not so much that it stopped feeling like them.

When It Gets Real

By the time October rolled around, the nerves had set in.

Sleep wasn’t great. Logistics were top of mind. Accommodation near Myeongdong, final payments, and whether everything would come together. Which, to be fair, is exactly how most sane people feel before asking one of the biggest questions of their life.

But he’d done the work.

That’s the part people don’t always see.

When a proposal looks effortless, it’s usually because someone thought hard about it beforehand.

Jade definitely did.
